Swedish game developer and app store bestseller looks for funding
VisualDreams was founded in 2010 in Norrköping by three gaming entrepreneurs and they have been working full time since then. They have been called one of Sweden’s hottest mobile gaming studios by the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter. The games they’ve produced have have been featured by Apple in over 100 app stores around the world.
VisualDreams have over 7 million downloads today, and an impressive half a million monthly native users and are currently developing Slam Dunk Basketball 2, a sequel to the hit game Slam Dunk Basketball 1 that has so far had over 4 million downloads. It’s also been chosen by Apple staff as one of their favorite games. We caught up with their CEO Kristofer Boman for a quick chat.
I’ve always seen myself as an entrepreneur so when I started my journey to become a game developer back in 2006 I knew right from the start that my goal was to start my own studio. That is exactly what I did right after graduating from The Game Assembly in 2010. With me I had two fellow students Harald Johansson and David Marquard, two really talented developers and together we started VisualDreams. We had great success right from the start, signing a publishing deal with Capcom within the first month, to development of our first game Herman the Hermit.
Last year, their vision became clear, the goal is to build a mobile sports gaming platform and become the Swedish “mini EA sports” for mobile free-to-play sports games, “We are starting off by releasing Slam Dunk Basketball 2, the sequel to our top hit game Slam Dunk Basketball.”. SDB 2 is just a smaller piece in their vision of becoming the leading company in the mobile sports genre “We know that we can create high quality games, but the most important thing is that the platform we are building consists of all elements neccessary to create a successful sports game: monetization, competition, backend, social, statistics and more”.
They are currently looking to take their first investment, Kristofer Boman, CEO says:
The company is right now seeking their first investment to take the business to the next step. The goal is to build a casual mobile sports gaming platform and become Sweden’s mini EA Sports for mobile free-to-play sports game. We’re currently talking with several VC companies and hope to seal the deal at the end of this year!
