Help the Chamber of Commerce find the Technician of the year!
Technology is the most human thing in the world. To show just that, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Southern Sweden, in collaboration with Alfa Laval, Bona AB, Chefspoolen, Deloitte, HMS, Moll Wendén, Ny Teknik, SEB and Trelleborg AB, awards a prize each year to the technician of the year (Årets Tekniker).
It’s all about finding people who inspire others. It is extremely difficult to compete in a global market without innovative thinking and courageous people with new ideas and products. The prize was first handed out in 2013 to Professor Bo Håkansson, Chalmers University of Technology, for his research and development of a bone conduction implant. Bo Håkansson’s invention has given thousands of people the ability to hear (more information in Swedish).
The idea for the award originally came from Kerstin Lindell, CEO of Bona AB and vice president of the Chamber of Commerce:
- There are prizes to leaders, economists and innovators, but we pay little attention to the technicians. Studies show that in year 2030, there’ll be a lack of over 50.000 engineers. With “Årets Tekniker”, we highlight technicians as a profession, and hopefully generate interest in technology, and thus strengthen our long-term competitiveness
The winner will be chosen amongst nominations handed in from for example colleagues or students or managers. The candidates will then be reviewed by a jury who selects the winner. The winner will receive a scholarship of 50.000 SEK and a CSR check to hand out to a project of choice that promotes the education of youths.
The awards ceremony takes place at the Chamber of Commerce’s fall meeting, November 27, in Malmö.
