How can good role models increase the interest in technology?

Where are the future engineering heroes?

How can good role models increase the interest in technology amongst the young in Sweden and inspire them to become engineers? To answer that question, IVA’s Student Council puts the question in focus together with Tekniksprånget for an event.

IVA was founded in 1919 and was the first engineering science academy in the world. The Academy comprises 1300 Swedish and foreign elected fellows and is enriched by the knowledge and experience of more than 200 members in the IVA Business Executives Council. Their student council works to increase diversity and establish conditions for a wider variety within the engineering profession.

Questions they will be trying to answer; is the engineer a tech geek and/or a world improver? What is the connection between rate of applications to the engineering educations and the image of the engineer? What is really needed to attract young people to become interested in technology and the engineering profession? Can internship programs be a way forward?

Panelist:

Sveriges elevkårer, Jonas Pergament, Public Sector Partner, IBM, Karin Hederos Eriksson, Postdoc, Institute for Social Research at Stockholm university, Margareta Norell Bergendahl, Vice President KTH and Peter Larsson, Head of Liaison Department and member of management group of Tekniksprånget in an exciting conversation on limits and opportunities.
