Hobby project Mapiful turns into a profitable business
Swedish based Mapiful launched with a bang, with sales in over 50 countries and counting, and have brought in revenue of 1 millon SEK ($120.500) in the first four months. Mapiful started out as a hobby project which four friends were working on during the evenings – after their real jobs.
Edvin Brobeck, CEO of Mapiful says:
– Initially we hoped that our friends and family would buy some and just wanted to test if it actually worked. We got chocked when the orders started rolling in, we received over 100 orders during the first day and on day two international orders from the US, Switzerland, South Korea, and the like, rolled in. This spring New York Times wrote about us, and that´s where it really exploded
The product is based on OpenStreetMap and provides users with a tool that makes it possible for the user to create a poster of any geographic map, such as their home city, the place where they met their spouse, etc.
